How Our Winter Service Works
How Our Winter Service Works
At Landscape Avenue, our winter gritting operations are delivered using digitally calibrated equipment and fully trained staff, ensuring accuracy, reliability, and complete peace of mind throughout the winter season.
Unlike manual or on-demand services, you don’t need to activate the service — we do it for you automatically, based on live weather data from the Met Office OpenSite system.
Met Office Integration – “OpenSite” Enhanced Forecasting
Landscape Avenue is directly connected to the Met Office OpenSite network, providing the most accurate and site-specific winter gritting forecast available.
This advanced system combines forecast data, Highways Agency road-state monitoring, and surface temperature readings, giving us precise information for each contracted site.
We receive an automated daily forecast, shown in a simple traffic light system:
Green – No Action Required
Road surface temperatures are expected to remain above freezing.
Yellow – Caution: Possible Freezing Conditions
Temperatures approaching 0°C or marginal conditions, possibly with surface moisture.
Amber – Likely Freezing Conditions
Road surface temperatures expected to fall below 0°C, with moisture leading to potential ice formation.
Red – Severe Hazard: Icy / Snow-Covered Roads Expected
Widespread sub-zero conditions or precipitation likely to cause hazardous surfaces.
The majority of our client sites are automatically activated on Red or Amber alerts.
